I Athenia-Owl.jpg sent this one to NGC Ancients to authenticate and I just love the way the mounted it into the holder. It's almost sideways.

I've been following this thread with much enjoyment. A big thank you to everyone! :)

I think in fairness to her, the Tetradrachm probably includes the most hair (or earring as she puts it) and the most crest, on the same coin, out of the Tetradrachms pictured. Note I'm not saying it has a complete crest, only more crest - in combination with complete hair - on the same coin.

However, do people value that over all else? My thoughts would be - definitely not. The surface isn't great, and it generally lacks the eye appeal that high end coins have.

At the end of the day, like all goods, the coin is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. No one is willing to pay what she's asking for, even if it does show full hair in combination with more crest on the same coin than any of the others pictured.

Personally, I'd go for eye appeal and crest, over the 'earring', any day of the week.

  5. Anyone catch this little number in Roma XVI last month? The ebay lady in question needs to see this 13,000 GBP example.

Wow, that one is actually complete. Like, complete complete - the 'earring' AND the crest.

Also, it has eye appeal and gold iridescent toning.

Not quite... it's missing a tiny bit of crest at the bottom. :troll:

Ancient coins law #1: there is no perfect classic Athens tet. :D

P.S. - I'm happy to settle for more complete than hers ;)

    Wow...

That is probably the only one struck on such a large flan. I’m surprised it only went for £13000
