It looks alright to me. If a contemporary counterfeit of a Columbian Half did exist, I would be interested in owning one.

I have a 1893-S Morgan for sale Hobo (Ebay) and it's a real good counterfeit! I could have possibly sold it for a couple thousand to one guy (in person) but I shook my head and took it with me, leaving him standing there drooling. :D I've never have told him it was a counterfeit and I probably won't. :mouth:

Ps: We're talking about you over in the AU 1858 thread.

I have two of these coins and the one in the picture looks ok to me. My grandmother gave me one and I bought the other. I like these for some reason. Maybe it is the ship or the world.

I hadn't thought of that , back in 1892 , 50 cents was a lot of money , and people wouldn't have been familiar with the design. rzage:eek:hya:

Assuming this s fake, I assume it is one of the Chinese forgeries being mass produced. They copy any and all coins. They cost a couple cents to make, and they tarnish them to look old. I have some fake Chinese dollars and the color is similar to this half. They are struck coins, with no silver in the alloy.

That is an excellent example of the art.

And a steal at that closing price.

I wish that I had seen it.

On something that isn't being discussed for unproffessional situations, I wait till the auction ends so I don't promote the auction, even though it's not my auction. I wanted to post that several days ago but waited till it closed this morning and posted it. I try to abide by the rules as much as possible.

    Ribbit :)

Ps: I agree on the price. I almost sniped it because it was so low but decided to save my money for a few other snipes coming up later.

Toad - you can post links to any auction as long as it is not your auction. It doesn't matter whether the auction is active or closed.

Ps: Can I post an active auction I bid on but was outbid, so as to hopefully get more bidders involved to screw over the jerk that outbid me? :D Provided of course, I do it in some sort of educational way?

When I'm bidding on something and someone outbids me, that qualifies them for "jerkhood" status. :D I want my coins and I want them cheap. :D

I wish it was that easy but getting coins cheap usually means getting cheap coins and that doesn't work. :headbang:

so i magine this an auction has $20 bid on it till the last 30 seconds then ends between 200-400 thats basically my life on coins i run after sometimes it goes into several hundreds/thousands so i got rid of that and built a network of dealers for best prices even my dear mentor was shocked to see some of the prices on my latest buys ( he thought iwas buying vf when i had bought coice unc) ;) so moral of the story if there are too many toads in the pond find yourself a lake (if not a princess) :D

Ps: The coins I go after usually triple in the last 30 seconds. If I want it really bad, that's the math I use - I triple the current bid and add a dollar to it and bid that amount and quite often I win using that math, but if that amount is too much then I bid what I'm willing to spend on it and usually I lose. Either way, I don't usually get what I want at the price I want but now-and-then I do so they make up for the ones that cost me more. :) I've currently got one I want really bad and the seller has the auction ending during primetime on Saturday so I already know it's going to cost me three times what I'd wouldn't mind getting it for. Darnit!

    if in doubt?

The reserve cost is WAY too high , shill bidders milk you the last minutes of auction to bump one more time, in your furry/heat of the moment you overbid...then croak, its over ,you overpaid... by bidders laugh , count your money, split there share of the scam. OT :hammer:
