Yes, I do actually agree with you on a lot of it, but your thread about "I'm done pursuing US Coins" never sat right with me. If you don't like the field so much, why are you still here, and why do you desire to profit from the very collectors you bashed? And then you repeat yourself over and over about PCGS. I said it 3 or 4 times. You: the numbers are off the charts. You completely ignored my PM's, another insulting thing about you. And your "holier than thou" attitude with folks that have been in the hobby years longer and have far more experience than you. No further comment, as I would like to honor coinblazer's request and not further detail this thread. If you'd like to talk further, PM me. But I figure that won't happen.
So I've noticed that capped bust half dimes are pretty reasonable. Do you guys agree? And how do you learn to discern problem coins in straight grades?
I can't speak for the half Dimes. Learning to discern problem coins in my opinion, is best done by examining lots of coins in details slabs, and known problem coins, preferably in hand. Photographs can help, but nothing can compare to going to a show and looking at stuff up close under a loupe. Can't stress this enough.
Half dimes will be doable from the capped bust on. Weird and small denominations like that don't get the love and fanfare the bigger coins do.
Based on how much we have discussed it, I don't think we are short on details coins to look at on the market!
I don't believe the Congressman was trying to profit directly, but some of his constituents were. (And then the Congressman probably profited indirectly.) 71 posts to go
75s is common. Sometimes you can get a 75 p much rarer and a much tougher coin. 75 cc I feel overrated and overpriced for how common they are. 1876 is a tough date I like a lot. I sold my au 58 cac 76 last year cause i needed money. I’ll buy a 76 for my type set again. I had an au 53 75 cc. That was a hard sell. I think I lost $100 just to move it as I had it too long
Study surfaces and altered coins look at original coins. Cac stickers are usually a sign of a high end coin
Far too many people see very different things when they are selling instead of buying or just typing online. I'll just leave it at that
That would warrant a “ED” designation or “cleaned”, not altered surfaces. Anyhow, feel like nit-picking the surfaces on this straight-grade bust half?
How that straight graded is beyond me. It’s so obviously dipped out it’s not funny. And this is why cac came about. I call it 100% ugly
