When I am able to get to a show one of my favorite things to do is to find the tables with the high end dealers. They usually have halogen lamps over the coins making their offerings look absolutely spectacular….. even though I have never been a toned coin aficionado, the way early nickels seem to tone in those lovely rainbow hues just completely does it for me. I love looking at them under those halogen lamps……. Anyway, two of mine are below. Just wondering if there is a reason these early nickels seem to glow in these rainbow hues? And please! Post your rainbow hued nickels.
Wow, gorgeous coins Randy! My guess is they toned in the same brand/type of album. I don’t have any toned early nickels yet but this one arrived yesterday.
So halogens are the best lights for showing off your coins? I've been wondering about that. The reverse of that V nickel is sweet indeed. Whoa, and the obverse of CircCam's new addition too. Congrats–beautiful stuff.
I visited a dealers shop in Oklahoma once. They had an exquisite seated proof dime elevated on a stand with a halogen light underneath. Anywhere you went in that shop, your eyes were drawn to that gleaming dime. It was the best single coin display I had ever seen….. Something about halogen lighting that makes a coin really pop.
This was one that got away. I only snapped a quick picture of it before it was put away into the LCS safe, but a favorite of mine (and my avatar). If I only had the spare money to invest...
Beautiful nickels Randy. I wish I had one. The only thing I have that is close, is a 1938 D MS67 Buffalo that toned like that.
