So at my top two dump banks I have jammed the coin machine the last week dumping halves. Kind of scary considering I might have a problem getting my $500 back. Today when it jammed the manager came out and said I jammed it. She fixed it and said I was putting them in too fast. Anybody else having problems with jamming the machines? Any techniques you have found that help this problem?
Not really sure the kind. I have Wells Fargo and it looks like a standard one used company wide. I have been dumping there for a couple of months and never had any problems at both banks until now.
My different CU's have 2 different types of Cumins machines. One that I use most of the time is a beast. Looks kind of like this: The other one sucks and jams up all the time. I only run small amounts of coin through it. The sensors get really dirty too which can mess up the count. Looks like this:
Wells Fargo uses niether one of those. Never had a problem with them until recently. Kind of scared to do my dumps now. That and I might be pissing off the employees with the noise it makes and whatever they have to do to change it out.
I've been spreading the wealth with my dumps to several banks. But you are right Furry, I'll give the main two a break. I'm going to just do one box a week for awhile too. Over the last month I have been doing 5-6 boxes of halves a week.
Back breaking work hauling that all around... I've got my pick up tomorrow. 2 shopping bags each ~80lbs. I still have $100 in cents to dump tomorrow as well.
I have $125 in cents that I have been too lazy to dump. Will probably hang onto them for awhile. It's all worth it though. There's nothing like opening a roll of halves and seeing a silver rim or two.
Yeah, I'm rootin for you. You did have a sweet score a little while back though, hopefully you could pull that one off again.
I just started checking half dollar rolls. I just dump them at my bank with which I have an account. Question: Do you normally dump at different banks and will they accept them if you don't have an account. I don't really want to upset the tellers at my bank. They are looking at me funny already, and I've only dumped about 150 dollars in halves.!!! That reminds me, I have 7 rolls to check out this evening.
I normally dump at different banks. When I do 3K in Halves a week it can get pretty lame. If you don't have an account they will ding you 9% in my area.
Yeah , I will not pay 9%. That seems pretty high. The banks near me don't have coin machines. I have just returned them in the same rolls I received them. A few times I used Coinstar and got the IHOP card or a Starbucks card for my son, but that's only a few bucks. Nothing like you have been doing. I was lucky on my first batch with a Franklin and another 40% Kennedy. Also found a Proof 1989 Kennedy. Guess I Lil save that one. It looks AU. Good luck in your searching.
I've had mine jam up in the past. I slowed down, spread them out going in, and the jams have stopped. I run between $500.00 & $2,000.00 a week.
I've run into issues at TCF branches with the older type machines. They don't "jam" but with halves it gets too heavy in the spinning part. Just have to take a few handfuls out and it starts up again - the teller has to open it up of course. It has a little window though so I try to be careful and watch. Only had the issue with halves.
Yeah, good advice. When I first started doing halves I would dump the box a handful at a time. Took forever. Then a manager came up and showed me how to dump all at once. Guess I will have to find a happy medium.
#1 - Don't dump where you pick up. Bad juju. Plus more likelihood of you getting your searched stuff back. #2 - Try to find a different bank around you that has machines you can dump at. I belong to several CU's that have machines. I spread the wealth around to all the different branches. I only have $20 in an account there but run about $20k a month through them. They all know me and what I do and are friendly so that helps.
I use freezer bags for $20. Worth of cents but am careful carrying them. I hold them from the bottom and put them in a shopping cart from my car. Sometimes I use the box from the bank.
