Hello, I just bought a Drusus sestertius that has a different reverse legend that RIC 93 , the ‘’IMP’’ is after the ‘’AVG’’ and not at the end , like this : TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG IMP P M TR P Have you ever seen a reverse legend like this ? , I didn't find one.... Is this a real ancient coin for you ? Diameter = 36 mm Weight = 22,70 grams Thank you !
Nice! NERO CLAUDIUS DRUSUS AE Sestertius OBVERSE: NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMANICVS IMP, bare head left REVERSE: TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG PM TR P IMP P P, Claudius seated left on curule chair, holding branch, surrounded by arms. SC in exergue Rome 41BC-2 AD 28.6g, 36mm RIC 109 [Claudius], Cohen 8, BMC 208
I don't see that legend listed in ERIC but I do see it in Forum's Fakes section . I didn't scrutinize the fakes to see if they match your coin, nor do I know if ERIC's legend listings are complete. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=22 http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=24 http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=30
Technically we should not call this man Drusus but the full Nero Claudius Drusus. Drusus is what we call the son of Tiberius while Nero Claudius Drusus was Tiberius' brother and father of Claudius who issued the coin in his honor. Why is it that these come commonly with and without PP after IMP but Cohen only listed them with and dealers now seem to ignore the matter and call both Cohen 8 not 8var for the no PP coin? Generally, it seems to me the PP reverse coins have a portrait a bit more narrow. I'm missing something here. Are the no-PP coins not official? https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=48839 https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=24635
