Mighty fine work for such fledgling talent.</font></p><p> </p><p><font face="arial">Equally as impressive is the <b>mighty Heraldic eagle</b>. It was a vital message to a threatening and unstable world that we were a force to be reckoned with.</font></p><p> </p><p><font face="arial">Yes, America was destined to be the mightiest of nations... but, when newborn, even the legendary Hercules was weak, broke, and vulnerable. </font></p><p> </p><p><font face="arial">The earliest days of our Republic were perilous indeed; having cast off the British Empire, our merchant marine lost the protection of His Majesty's Navy on the high seas. They were no longer our friends.</font></p><p> </p><p><font face="arial">The French who befriended us in our Revolution had a revolution of their own only two years after our victory. They were no longer our friends.</font></p><p> </p><p><font face="arial">They had no friends, and were the deadliest of pirates on the water.</font></p><p> </p><p><font face="arial">We had few friends, and the most potent military machines in history were openly hostile.</font></p><p> </p><p><font face="arial">Our Founding Fathers knew well our coinage carried our message, our values - and a warning if necessary.
