Doubling???

When I look at this coin with 10x magnification from a side angle it appears that there is indented spaces where I've circled. Looks like a shelf ... That's all I can think of how to describe it I can't get a clear pic of it to post. Has anyone heard of this before. There are more of these spaces on the obverse not so much on the reverse.
