Doubling on an old gold piece. Die or mechanical?

While inspecting my 1882 Italian 20-Lire gold piece under a loupe, I noticed that there is some doubling on a few of the letters and on Umberto's nose.

I have attached a picture of the doubling on the letters, and another of the doubling on the nose. I hope they are useful enough, as I simply put the camera lens to the loupe. It almost looks as if the 'O' in UMBERTO was struck three times, but I can only be sure of two.

The doubling seems to be localized to these areas. As I have not inspected many error coins in person, I am wondering if the doubling was on the die itself, or if it is mechanical due to the fact that it only occurs over one part of the coin.

    Thanks for any input!

The flat, shelf-like shape of the doubling leads me to say it is strike doubling.

The pictures aren't the best but I would have to agree.
