Hello everyone I have been seeing this doubled edge effect on a lot of pennies lately, I know I have seen this before on here I just don't know what it's called, what it's caused by, and what it is. Anybody have some information? (More to come on next post) Thanks, Jacob
On this coin, yes, it is obvious by the wider rim on one side. There are other causes that will give a rim that "doubled" appearance, collar clashes for one and an actual doubled die where the rim is doubled on the die.
Minor mis-aligned dies are fairly common on most denominations; they are more like anomalies than errors.
