Have some questions about this Indian cent. There is a doubled die reverse 1863, (Snow 10), but this isn't it. Am I just seeing machine doubling at the bottom of the reverse? Also, what do you call the seemingly off center reverse? Is that a partial collar? Broadstrike? Thanks for your help!

Interesting coin; I've been thinking about it for a bit. To my recollection (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), the obverse is the hammer die for IHC's, meaning the misaligned die strike we're seeing here is on the anvil die, which is pretty uncommon. The anvil die is contstrained by the collar and since this coin appears to have a "normal" rim, it becomes hard to visualize how this happened. It's like the whole dang thing had to have broken loose. :)

The "doubling" seems evidential of MD, with no apparent separation at the leaf tips.
