The Chinese are so desperate to flood the market with their fake errors that all I had to do was pay $1.60 shipping and nothing for the coin. Waiting to see when these wind up on auction sites. Also, I always wondered how error coins sold when struck on key dates. Would I pay more for this because it is an 1893-S? No way. So I don't bother with errors on rare dates.
Why I don't buy errors in general. Would like to grab slabbed examples, but none have piques in interest. Now I have to worry about fake slabs
Actually, by studying and collecting errors, you will learn so much more about coins in general. I know a lot of people who study coins intensely but skip errors. What I notice is they know little about how coins are actually made. Yet my friends who study errors intensely are also knowledgeable about non-errors. You really need to know how errors are created if you want to seriously collect them. You learn all the processes and stages for various series and denominations a lot more than not studying them. It is also easier to detect altered, damaged, and counterfeits. I think my error amigos would agree @paddyman98 @Fred Weinberg @cpm9ball @Conder101 @Randy Abercrombie @Michael K
I Totally agree. Here is an altered fake double struck from my collection and my old thread https://www.cointalk.com/threads/philippines-double-struck-or-not.312295/
