i have never found someone who loved modern comems more than me. that is till you came along its unbelievable.
Thanks Taurus for the pic. Has anybody bought this yet??? Now don't be shy.... someone out there must have bought it. If I had an extra disposable $1200 I would get it in a heartbeat..... did anyone notice my coins for sale on ebay?
I don't know Joe; The price of gold is falling, I'm only getting an ounce of gold in the set......can't justify the cost.
888 i like the box, but i hate the coin without capsule. i hope the mint will include capsule before inserting to the cardboard and preserve it in a plastic case. i also hope the mint uncirculated set will be presented in the same way with that of clad proof set and silver proof set. lastly, i hope the mint will sell boxes, certificates and sleeves of all coins they produced. so that collectors can change those damaged and ugly box etc.
Elaine, you can order replacement boxes, sleeves, COAs and such from the mint at no charge..... as long as you placed the order with them. If you bought an item from a third party, the mint will not send you any replacements. I have done this many times over the years. The ones that I didn't buy from the mint, I had to find on ebay or somewhere else. I have received many replacement sleeves for my proof sets..... but they only carry them for so many years. For example, you may get lucky and get a sleeve for the 2004 proof set, but if you want one from 2000 they probably ran out of them a long time ago. I was told that the mint saves extra "parts" each year to these sets so they can replace the parts if requested. As far as the Prosperity set goes, I am just disappointed that they didn't limit the production. I would have bought one for sure if that were the case, but like Ken said, with the price of gold dropping, it is just not worth it. And since there is nothing special about these coins, even a low set production wont have an effect on the aftermarket price.... unless people just want the wood box the coins came in.
I suspect these are sold in "unlimited" quantities more as cultural souvenirs than as collectors' sets. The mint will certainly make a mint on these since there is a huge Asian community that values it.
Saw my first prosperity set tonight. A few weeks ago, a guy in my local coin club and I were discussing some mint issued sets and this set came up. He told me that he bought one and I asked him to bring it to the next coin club meeting. He remembered to bring it in tonight. All I have to say is What A Set!!! Putting aside the fact that there is less than $800 of gold between to the two coins and the set costs $1200... it has the nicest presentation of any coin set i have seen released from the mint. As I have said before, to bad this wasn't a limited edition set because I would buy it in a heartbeat.
