I have had "good luck" with the mint. But it seems that every time I make a purchase I feel like I am supporting the continuing process of making and designing very poor coins. The reliefs on many coins today (primarily circulation) are practically flat, dull lifeless objects. Compare a 2015 cent with a 1963 cent, no micrometer is needed! I am told its about saving or prolonging die life. Which stands on the premise that its about cutting costs. Baloney. The phoney copper plated zinc cents are quite soft and profitable!! Check the melt values. The dime is another profitable winner for the mint. The senorage (man I do not remember how to even spell that one, but y'all know what I mean) is really high for the quarter. In fact the quarter "sales" alone pay most of the bills. What I absolutely despise, are coins minted only for "collectors". Which to me is insanity. Numismatic coins and medals and commemoratives belong to mints like the Franklin and Danbury etc. The US mint should focus upon making fabulous coins suitable to the greatest nation this earth has yet seen!! Let's get with it. Titanium, niobium, tri-metallics, aluminum/bronzes, and high relief beautiful, I mean beautiful designs. The true collectors will then switch to these beautiful business and proof types of these (the aforementioned coins). I would buy a beautiful circulation coin... Period... Look at the 1993- Czech republic 50 Korun, bi-metallic. Now the outer ring of copper plated steel produces a stunning coin!! Both the inner core and outer ring are steel! Great engineering!

Seriously, jump over to EBAY and take a look at one. Now why cannot the US Mint make such treasured objects of commerce??

Gary
