I thought it would be fun to post some examples we found of extreme prices for ordinary coins and how people tried to market them as special. (I don't know if etsy should count since everything there is extreme.) The funnier the better.
Actually, it's Mercari. I read an article in Bloomberg Weekly not so long ago about them. I believe it started out with quality used clothing but obviously it has morphed. This is not really much better than Etsey in the long run. Coins will be something no one on board there has much of a clue about.
I buy designer handbags on Mercari. And other designer stuff. That's why I have the app. I got the coupon when the feedback feature messed up the other day. I know you was just kidding but just in case somebody else wanted to know how to get a coupon on there.
A lot of these were gold plated back when the state quarters were so hot. Mike Mezack got wealthy selling gold plated state quarter. I own two that I picked up from pocket change. It’s not at all unusual to pick up a gold plated state quarter.... And don’t get excited. The plating is so thin there is no discernible gold value plated on them. But they are pretty to look at. Heck, anything gold is pretty to look at.
Could be gold plated. Some dealers / coin shops etc. have coins gold plated as a novelty. The amount of gold is so miniscule that it doesn't add much if anything to the value. One of the LCS near me sells these for $3 each.
