I've been slowly getting through the ID backlog and I got stuck at this as - I can't match the obverse to the reverse. I think it's an as of Domitian, as caesar under Titus. 22mm, 11g and 12h. The obverse is CAES DIVI AVG VESP F DOMITIANVS COS VII, laureate head right. The reverse is Minerva standing left, holding thunderbolt and spear, shield at her side, S-C in fields. For this obverse, I'm only finding the reverses with Minerva walking (e.g. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/domitian/RIC_0314[titus].txt ). All "standing Minervas" have CAES DIVI AVG VESP F DOMITIAN COS VII on the obverse. Sears vol 1 and Wildwinds - no match. What I am missing? EDIT: I was missing that I was missing nothing. I've confused the legends. D'oh.
Handsome style on that one. Sorry I can't help you. Now, when you find Minerva breakdancing, I want to know what the RIC number is! Say, wassup with that all-black avatar? Mourning? Stealth mode? Something to make doofuses like me ask silly off-topic questions?
Holy cow, that's embarrassing How did that get so mangled up in my mind? I guess I'll still leave the post up. Yep, I got it for the portrait. Very expressive. I've used that as my avatar everywhere for the last 20 years b/c I just never cared about avatars. Incidentally, it acquired a meaning now.
