This coin was brought to us to be certified. I think the coin goes details, but I thought it would be fun to see what you guys thought about this uber rare coin.

I'll say yes, since it is so rare

No way. I Could maybe overlook the Obverse neck as a "hit", but the Reverse is just too clearly a large scratch, and smaller scratches /gouges in various places.

You've got a shot, maybe XF40 on a really good day, express or walkthrough may be best. ICG too may let it go as XF as an important rarity that needs to be in a protective holder. It is certainly their prerogative to net down as the buyer will see what the problems are.

Details but when you're dealing with a coin that expensive I think any buyer would want it slabbed.

R-9 survival estimate 24! And it just waltzed right in.

    I would label it details.
And wow! @Yankee42 only 24 have made it through the years, that's amazing!

That's the coin facts estimate anyway.

I would say if its a generic $10 no way it slabs, but given the date its a coin flip. I have seen worst rare coins get slabbed, in all likelihood because its rare and brings prestige to the slabber to have it in their holder.

I'd call it VF details, but with a coin on the high side of five figures, I'd want it in a slab details or not.

Really though, as rare as it is, this is not a coin in such demand that the graders would want it in their slab at the cost of grading it improperly. I say it gets a details slab, but hoping for the best for the owner of this cool piece.

Despite the obvious marks, I think the coin has too much going for it - uniform wear, some retained luster, nice color, and rarity - to not receive a value grade. Why? Because, while Genuine and Details designations exist primarily to protect the ignorant, typical buyers of coins this rare are already market savvy, and understand how to assign value to such items.

Now if the coin possessed a downright offensive look - polished, bent, holed - then I'd say it belonged in a Genuine or Details holder. Nope, I vote that it gets in . . .

My guess is no. I might excuse one or the other, but not both.

I guess no; not at a straight grade.

XF45 is not out of the question in which case it could be a $100K coin!

XF Details Harshly Cleaned. You should grade it, it is so rare that even being cleaned it is worth being graded due to rarity.

    It hasn't been cleaned.
