Even if money isn't an issue. It still takes a while to get the coins back from grading companies. I know Lighthouse makes a lot of presentation/display products. You might want to look into that also. There are other companies that will do custom stuff. I can't recall the names but a few episodes back of the Coin Show I think they discussed one. This way you can put your coins in your display how you want them. your labels everything.

I assign a -$10 crack out fee to any coin I may buy that is slabbed. The largest ancient firm does the same, internally they pay less for any ancient in a slab, since their employee will have to band saw it free to be able to resell it. :)

I agree that slabbing is a sunk cost. The original owner paid it hoping for a high grade. After that its debatable if a US coin in a slab is worth the entire grading fee. It may be worth SOME more, but probably somewhere between 0 and the total fee.

The answer is yes, to stay on topic, but if I got coins graded it would be because I wanted to, not because I am worried how much it would cost.

I agree. Let's give accurate answers if any.

I do find that many dealers do offer graded coins on eBay that aren't indemand. Some of my better purchases I believe have been graded coins where there is no reserve and I happen to have entered the only bid ? But when I can purchase a graded coin for less than the postage to submit one, I feel I came out ahead.

Congratulations ! That's a lot more than my wife allows me to spend. lol

The best thing to do is post some pics here and get some advice. You can always look at PCGS on line and compare your coins to the grade comparison pics they have there. And finally, decide what storage methods and supplies you need to display your coins. You can self-slab them. Basically, how you collect is a personal choice. Most of us change directions from time to time, so you might find yourself doing that too. If you just want to display individual coins, you can find supplies at several on-line stores.

as for graded items, you should post a pic first. Unless it is for purely sentimental reasons, most coins do not warrant the cost of grading. It is an expensive proposition, that does not guarantee a return. As others have said, you do not want to spend $30-40 to have a $20 coin graded. This is one you might self slab and use the money to make more coin purchases. At least that's how a few of us think.

Good luck on your collection and this venture. I look forward to seeing some pics.
