I have a now ancient HP 4370 that I like to use for coins, because I have tweaked it to get a bit of a 2D image - ie getting some of the edge of the coin. The scanner is old enough that I had to convert the software for it to 64bit for my now laptop. I have also had to take it apart a couple of times to work on it and clean the inside when it got hazy on the glass. I have a similarly aged Canon scanner as my reserve backup. You see the thing that older scanners can do that newer ones cannot - is scan US paper money - all the newer ones have internal chips that render paper money scans useless.
