I give up!!!!!!!!!! I guess every ones opinion even to agree that a person like that shouldn't be allowed to do things like sell coins like that is never going to get through everybody's head. I cant believe there is even people that actually find this to be ok in there crazy minds.... Gets me sick!:computer:

Yall keep on with this thread, I really don't think its much of a point since some people don't find sellers like this to be doing anything wrong. At the same time though I find it very amussing to see people like those that dont find anything wrong with this sort of sellers and those who just love to contradict. Thanks for all the knowladge and opinions everyone.

We tried T$... I just cant get into peoples head....lol

    Rigo,

You will find that peoples opinions in life vary more because of their perspective than they will because of things like right or wrong. If you want me to get upset that a guy is baking his coins in an oven and selling them to newbies for $40, well I just can't muster the energy to care. It isn't because I condone what that seller is doing or that I think it is right. The problem is that $40 just isn't worth my time.

I know that you find sellers such as these despicable and think they should all be out of business. However, in a very strange way, they serve a valuable purpose. All of the newbies who buy these coins have obviously no regard for the philosophy of "caveat emptor" and have not bothered to educate themselves about the hobby prior to spending their money. Eventually each of these collectors will learn that they were ripped off. And though they may get upset, most will realize that they just learned a very valuable lesson for a bargain price. Hopefully, they will learn the lesson before they graduate into make much bigger costlier numismatic purchasing mistakes.

I personally spent thousands of dollars on raw Barber quarters before I learned a similar lesson. I don't hold the E-bay sellers responsible for my mistakes. That responsibility rests squarely on my shoulders. To read more about it, please read this thread:

    http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t40415/

Furthermore, the seller never claims that the coins are NT. He simply lists an item on E-Bay and people bid on them. If you really want to be upset, you should be upset that he lists the coins as gem bu when they are not. It is not my intention to play devil's advocate with you, but you would be wise to try to understand the opinions of others that disagree with you.

tonedcoins - what part of this is that you don't understand ? Please tell me how this comment could even remotely be construed to mean that I condone artificial toning of coins ?

I agree with Johnny54321 and tonedcoins.

A major problem with AT is this : why should a coin doctor profit ? Why should someone make money hand over fist because they apply chemical to a coin ?

Take a look at true expert dealers. I talkin' bout the scholarly type. Those guys put in long hours of study to get where they are, and they keep on studying. They deserve to make a good living as a dealer. They paid their dues, and they earn it every day. :thumb:

Contrast that with a cheap coin doctor. :hammer:

Never debate to convince your opponent.

    Debate to convince the audience.

Well, thanks to all of you for at least taking a look, and giving your opinions. I have absorbed a lot of things I didn't like but also things I liked from some of you "experts". Thanks T$, Lehigh96, desertgem, GDJMSP, and 900fine for the comments.

My apologies to those who hate old threads being bumped up.

As a newbie collector, CT poster etc etc I think I lot of you are missing a huge positive of the demand on these coins and that is simply that. More demand with limited supply equals what?

For all you purists, you should be encouraging the supposed destruction of these coins by questionable methods because that means that your virgin coins become just that much more rare with each one "removed"

The reason it's a problem is because the people he was talking about, the people buying the AT coins, do not know that they are being duped.

Indeed, a quick look at the feedback for the ATers on ebay tells you that. Tons of ignorant buyers out there!

I would prefer that if you are going to quote other peoples post that you either quote the entire post or one continuous section of the post. I don't appreciate you deleting sections of my post in order to bolster your warped radical opinion. I have taken the liberty of inserting my entire post in your post which I have quoted above.

My comments about lessons and graduation applied to collectors who had no idea that what they were buying was AT as Doug has already mentioned.

Your fanatical obsession with everyone having the freedom to collect whatever they want without any criticism is getting really old. Listen, we don't care if you want to waste your money on what we consider junk coins, but the majority of the people who come to forums such as these come here to learn and become better collectors with regards to financial prudence.

Futhermore, coin doctors are committing fraud in my eyes. The doctors that create AT coins and sell them as NT coins are duping the newbies who buy them. Every AT coin that enters the market and passes as NT reduces the rarity of the NT coins in that market, thereby making them less valuable. Perhaps if you had a significant financial investment in toned coins you would not hold such a cavalier attitude about the subject.

Lastly, those of us who are significantly vested in rare coins are not going to take the subject less seriously in order to avoid offending the fragile sensibilities of certain newbies!

when the product toning juice hits shelves nxt year. Everyone will be considered a coin doctor.
My best suggestion buy him out before he does. Or else the damage will be insane. It's undetectable. It's an insanely perfected formula.

I've sold AT coins on ebay. I always let the buyers know they are AT before they bid, but I always get a premium for them.

Well said Paul. Some people just want to be heard and followed while others want to ask questions to teach and learn. Like Doug says "knowledge ..... share it".

I have somewhat given up on these coin docs and their fraudulent practices (for now) but I just don't approve of their dirty dishonesty. Coins get brought in to the hobby, people get duped and it just messes up the hobby. Some coin docs have attacked me for what I say and how I warn others, here and on emails but I accomplished taking their a***s out there and made them fail.

Although I no longer consistently collect in this hobby, I am always here to advice, warn, learn and teach what I know.

This is an interesting thread. I am certain, though, that some of the participants do not understand the seriousness of the subject matter or counter-measures that have been or can be taken. I have written a good deal about coin doctoring and about the PCGS lawsuit against alleged coin doctors
