Does anyone here think we should have a $5 coin replace the $5 bill?

I would be in favor of introducing a $2 and $5 coin. But, I don't think adoption would occur unless the Fed/Bureau of Engraving stopped producing bills lower than $10.

I routinely use the dollar coins, but the reaction I get to them is not always positive. And, they can be a nuisance in large quantities (although, keeping a roll of them in a pocket is a bit less suspicious than carrying around a traditional cudgel).

Already did that with BOTH Senators, and House member, and all I got was one form letter from one Seanator, which proves its just as useless as my letters on $500 bills.

I would rather have a $2 coin than a $5 coin if you ask me.

This would be a stupid idea. I could see a $1, $2 and $5 coin, but NOT just a $1 and $5 coin. I would HATE having to carry at least four $1 coins, it would be the whole "Carrying four quarters" issue all oiver again. NO. We NEED a $2 coin.

I still want the nickel and quarter to go, in favor of a 20 cent coin and rounding to the nearest dime, and reducing the size of the half.

Gee, they reduced the size of the dollar coin, so, what is stopping them from reducing the size of the half. I already said what could be the perfect idea for them.

And they will *NEVER* get rid of the $1 bill in favor of the dollar coin unless people start using them. What can we do, besides using them ourselves? I mean, every time I use halves, dollar coins or $2 bills, I always ask "Are you going to give those out in change?" and their response is always, "No, we just turn them in at the bank for "regular" money" So, are we fighting a futile battle? I mean, have YOU had anyone hand out your golden dollars and $2 bills as change that you say to spend so many of? Even my 7 Eleven buddy does not hand the coins or $2 bills back out in change much, because some people complain.

Oh and, sorry to break the news Fred, but if you have been reading the paper money forum, you will see that the Treasury IS redesigning the $2 bill with the next currency redesign, even though you do not want it to happen. So the vending and self checkout industry will have to update their machines to take the new $2 bills, which is why I suggested to the Treasury, BEP and vending industry, that they should try to get the redesigned $2 bills issued at the same time as the time they issue the new $5 bill, so that they can reprogram their machines to accept BOTH denominations at once, thus making even certain vending machines that did not even take the old $2 bill, take the new $2 bill design, so this could be a plus.

Look Fred, I am sorry if I made you mad, but can we please call a truce and try to work together, and THEN maybe there will be a chance to get rid of $1 bills, seeing as, the more dollar coin supporters, the better? If you can prove to me, that the dollar coin is going to replace the $1 bill any time soon, I promise you, I will try to order and spend as many dollar coins and $2 bills as I can, and H:devil:ll, I will even give you my address so that you can send me the Golden Dollar promotional stamp, and I will stamp ALL of my paper money I spend, with that stamp. But if its not too much to ask, please spend a few halves for me in return, here and there. You do not have to, but if you still want to send me one of those stamps, please let me know.

To augment the circulation of the one-dollar piece, a 3$ coin would be more efficient than a 2$ coin.

I think we should have a $2.37 coin that is only legal tender on alternate Tuesdays except in leap years when it would only be legal tender on Feb. 29!

A $2.13 coin would be awesome for restaurant owners since they pay their waiters at $2.13 an hour outside of the tips they get. :thumb:

No, sorry dude but that just won't work. I don't like the idea and I actually support giving the boot to the $1 dollar bill and replacing it with a coin but that's where it ends for me. With all the debt Uncle Sam has we need to do everything we can with what we got and we already have stockpiles of $1 dollar coins. ;)

T-Bud - I think my remarks came across the wrong way. I hear so much about politics and politicians that I need a break - which is why I come here. I totally agree with you that there are many/much more pressing issues in the US/world today that deserve attention. Unfortunately that's all I see on the news so I need a place to unwind somewhere.
I'm pretty new here so I'm not sure how may times the coin versus bill topic has been brought up - apparently a lot. But I still like the idea of coins better. If nothing else they save tax dollars in the long run because they last so much longer. I'm sure our wise elected officials would spend the savings carefully... Not.
Anyway I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.

Oh, and Geezer I could use a $2.37 coin because there's scrapbooking crap, I mean stuff, that my wife buys at Wal-Mart for that exact price. Of course I'll have to pay the sales tax in pennies...

Oh yeah, Drago, I use the dollar coins and halves on purpose, whenever I can - it seems most (all?) cash registers have no slots for them. I like paying for lunch with a huge handful of halves.

On a side note, I went to KFC a few weeks ago and paid with some dollar coins. The 17 year old (maybe) counterperson looked at them kinda funny for at least 10 seconds, then mumbled something about "just a minute" and took them back somewhere out of sight. I really think he had never seen them before. I gotta say the coin's uninspired design makes them look like video game arcade tokens. After a few minutes he came back and all was well.

I think we should replace the dollar bill with Sheffield plate cast Continental dollar coins.

  12. It will be more than fun to see if the Feds will give up the most printed bill in our money as they get paid for each one they have printed.
If it were you that made these bills would you just roll over because it would save us as taxpayers money.
You can dream that they would care about you all you want its not going to happen.
