I have seen ★ coins go for about the same as Numismedia Fair Market Value, and I have seen others go for 10 or even 20 times the FMV. It all depends on if two people bidding on the coin both really love the coin. Toning premiums are a wide range of values, and almost impossible to predict or assign value.</p><p><br /></p><p>On the other hand, the "+" designation is related to the grade of the coin. Thus, the "+" coins (in my experience) are generally priced between the two grades involved. For example, an MS66+ coin will be valued somewhere between MS66 and MS67. Suppose the MS66 has a value of $500 and the MS67 has a value of $2000. An MS66+ would likely fetch around $1000 (about a 33% premium of the <i>difference </i>between the two grades). If the higher grade coin is essentially a population 1 or 2 coin, then the little sister "+" coins of the grade below can fetch much more. </p><p><br /></p><p>In summary, for the "+" coins you have a window of likely values, but for the ★ coins you are pretty much clueless. I don't suspect that "+" graded coins will ever feasibly be listed in a values guide. There are already 11 grades between MS60 and MS70 that can be priced, I don't think adding more will really add much to market.</p><p><br /></p><p>On a related note, if you participate in the NGC registry, the ★ and + designations are given point premiums for Registry Sets. As an example of the point premiums, if an MS65 coin is given 100 points, and the MS66 coin is given 400 points, then the following coins are given incremental point values based 1/3 and 2/3 between the grades (Illustrated below).</p><p><br /></p><p>MS65 -- 100 pts.</p><p>MS65★ -- 200 pts (100 point premium = 300 point difference between MS65 and MS66 x 1/3)</p><p>MS65+ -- 200 pts (100 point premium = 300 point difference between MS65 and MS66 x 1/3)</p><p>MS65+★ -- 300 pts(200 point premium, 100 for the ★, and 100 for the +)</p><p>MS66 -- 400 pts.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
