I usually do not go for a coin like this (grade) but the price was not that bad...I paid $32 for it and I was wondering if I did good or bad... by the way...I do not get this year... 1896-P 950,000 1896-O 924,000 1896-S 1,140,948 how is it possible that a coin that has more mintages than the other two mints be x4 to x5 times the value?? now i've tried looking at (coinfacts.com) and some other websites on why this coin is waaay priced and considered a key date when the other two has more mintages... can anyone help me with this certain coin... facts...grade...opinions.... thanks alot and p.s. don't get angry with me for posting too much I just have alot of questions to ask!!! -acsf89:devil:
good? You did great @ $32.00 That piece should go G-4, with a current trends of $125. As for the values, remember, it had just recently (at the time) started to become popular to collect coins by mint mark. Prior to (about) 1892 a collector just obtained a date example. also, remember, there were far fewer coin collectors in the West than in the East, so far fewer pieces were saved. Great purchase.
+1. The 1877 Indian Cent is more expensive than the 1909-S Indian, there's a few reasons why. The 1877 has a higher mintage, but less are existing in any grade. Because of the last year of the Indian cent, more 1909-S's were saved in better shape, thus making the 1877 more scarce and expensive. Same thing goes for the 1914-D Lincoln cent, less were saved in unc grades, therefor most people think the 1909-S VDB takes the whole cake. The 1914-D cent is the coin to have in MS-63 and up. That seems like the same case on your 3 coins.
