Thinking about buying this for the variety (B-7) and the price seems fairly decent from the seller. What do you all think about it? https://i.postimg.cc/0QVWLJsV/1831-merge.jpg
Nice decent coin. The important question is not "Do *I* like it?", but "Do *YOU* like it?". If you like it, *BUY* it. The question is not "What future pleasure will I have when I let it go?", but "What present pleasure will I have to hold it in my hand?".
I know nothing about these varieties. The coin grades Good -6 with a light cleaning. If it’s a common variety, you can do better. If this is your usual grade, it’s okay. If it’s a rarity, and most of your other coins are much higher grades, it might be a filler or the best you can do. It all depends up how you collect.

Personally, I don’t like coins with partial rims. It has some eye appeal, even though it looks lightly cleaned to me. Do you like it? That’s the important part. If a good friend was perusing your collection, would you brag about it?
If your partner likes it, your in, If your partner doesn't like it, is it worth it? Your decision, good luck.
It's the 3rd rarest Variety 2 (Reduced Diameter) Capped Bust quarter. My reference has it as a R-5+. So IMO the important factors are: (1) authenticity (is it really a B-7?) (2) originality (not a DETAILS coin) (3) grade I bought mine raw on eBay. NGC verified it as a B-7. They slabbed it as Fine DETAILS (I knew it was going to get the DETAILS label). I suspect other people knew what it was hence the price was a bit high. At the time a straight graded 1831 with no variety attribution was cataloging $135. It took a bid of $399 for me to win it. Here's what mine looks like:
Oops, this is the second time my images have Red-X'ed. But only in here, i.e., not elsewhere. I guess it's going to take the System Manager to get it straightened out.
I do not like this coin. Not because of its condition but it doesn't look right to me. Eagles neck seems narrow, and beak(?); Lady Liberty's face doesn't look right to me. Is it authentic? Maybe tooled? Not saying I'm right; just raising the question whether it is authentic.
Hope you're right but have my doubts. Have had issues with intermittent multiple posts that happen only here but likewise not elsewhere on any other similar forum/blog sites I also use. I just started using a different device so will see what happens. Good luck.
Comparing the OP's example to Kanga's I would be willing to take the chance. Edit to add: If one quotes Kanga's post his pics show up.
Looks genuine, agree light cleaning but if not too reflective or obviously scrubbed might straight grade.
Whenever I see a coin I would like, even with problems, I always ask: Can I live with this? If so, I get it. If not, I pass
