Was George's BWI crossing the Delaware? No wonder he was standing up and not getting cold, he was pickled!
Jars, I put em in jars. I am using the same jars my father had his cents accumulations in, my sister spoke up to get the cents so I rolled them and shipped them, and saved the jars for my own cents. I like your idea of gifting those coins to maybe help some youngun get started.

I am revisiting this old thread because of a post I saw today about someone sorting through their junk box. I too keep a couple. One for the true "junk" silver (dateless standing liberties, damaged Mercs, etc. And another for Marginal junk. The coins with rims, legible dates, mints, etc. These would grade from AG to VF. Many were taken from folders as I upgraded the coins. I go back through it from time to time. Recently I discovered both varieties of the 1928 S Merc in it. So that is always a pleasant surprise. For cents, there are several peanut butter jars that replace the old coffee cans as I sort through it one last time.
I periodically purge my junk box, through garage sales, cash in the silver, etc. And usually I go buy something nice for my collection.
To me a junk box is what numismatists keep their oddball coins, tkens, and medals in. This is junk that they can't even identify to put it in its proper slot. These junk boxes have always fascinated me and I've got many collections that have grown from various junk box origins. If you want to know what true junk is look at my junk box. I throw mnore things in the garbage than the junk box.
I don't call any of them junk unless they are a slab. I give common date worn walkers (VG-XF) and other silver coins to my nieces and nephews for birthdays, graduation etc. I don't want to sell them to be melted down so I pass them along. This is one of the reasons I keep what you guys call Morgans worth scrap price they love getting one. Ice
Amen to that ! Hang on to them long enough and you start seeing copies of your coins being minted in China. It's almost criminal to actually sell them to a smelter. IMHO
I have a certain area where i save bicentennial quarters, pre 50's nickels, wheat back's. I have a box of about $25 of assorted canadian pennies that i bought to start a folder that i can't seem to let go of. There is also a little tin where i throw tokens and odd foreign coins that i have duplicates of.
