I've looked at lots of OLDER bills: Hawaii, North Africa, Low SN, Double Quads, Straights, SC's, Gold Certs, etc. When a STAR note is involved...the price usually goes up by 50-200%. It's not like a CAC sticker with a coin where it goes up by 15-25% on average. STAR notes for some reason really jump the price on an existing type of bill. Only a WELL-KNOWN batch or Fed District scarcity or super-high quality with low pop jumps the price as much. I've been surprised with the stuff I see on Ebay and HA. I look at bills...see the price....say "WTF?"...and then see it's a STAR note and say "Oh, that explains it...."
Does that mycurrencycollection site allow you to look up ANY bills...regular notes, SCs, Gold Certs, and other notes ? Or just STAR and National Bank Notes ?
Without doing research, I find it hard to believe the FMV of a 2003 bill -- STAR and reasonably low SN notwithstanding -- is worth $12,000. I HAVE no familiarity with that year's bills so maybe it is in the ballpark. It could also be worth 1/10th or 1/100th of that figure and the seller is hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with some drunk Google employee who just sold some stock options.
@WildWest first, let me say you are looking at the wrong page. you are looking at what people WANT for them, not what they SELL for. go to ebay SOLD listings to see what they sell for. look at the ones that have a premium and figure out why. the top note someone posted for example. I00233481 only has one run and it is 1 out of only 250,000 with only 250,000 printed. while the one you looked up is a 320,000 run with over 10 million printed. one is more rare. if you have a $1 that is of a 250,000 run out of 250,000 printed it will get more of a premium than if you had a note from a 250,000 run with 10 million printed. this is how it was explained to me. if off base, someone feel free to correct me. hate learning or teaching wrong H-1 H 00 000 001 * H 03 200 000 * 3,200,000 NOTE H-2 H 03 200 001 * H 03 700 000 * 500,000 SHEET I-1 I 00 000 001 * I 00 250 000 * 250,000 SHEET J-1 J 00 000 001 * J 03 200 000 * 3,200,000 NOTE J-2 J 03 200 001 * J 03 450 000 * 250,000 SHEET K-1 K 00 000 001 * K 03 200 000 * 3,200,000 NOTE
