The doubling on a 1939 DDR Doubled Monticello Jefferson Nickel is very prominent with a wide spread even on circulated examples. Your coin is showing mechanical doubling.
Your coin is the result of strike doubling, also known as mechanical doubling or machine doubling. There is no premium associated with strike doubling. Do you see how different the spread of the doubling is between your example and the photos posted of the Doubled Monticello's? It is most evident on the last "O".
Thanks. I only wish it was worth something and I guess its cool to have a machine doubled nickel. LOL.
To be honest, even a real 1939 Doubled Monticello Jefferson is worth less than $100 in the lower circulated grades.
sorry, as stated above, MD (machine doubling aka mechanical doubling), But keep looking. I have cherry picked several of them
I agree your coin has MD. Best way to tell on this coin is that the "doubling moves both east and west. A true doubled die only moves in one direction, But a true DD coin can also show MD. Please post pics of the entire coin. There are a few oddities between 38 and 40 that are also collectible.
