Technically, the Charlton does not show anything, it only lists the strike types and their prices. There are no photos in the Charlton showing 1983 Far Beads variety Canada Small Cents in PL or SP. The photographic example provided is of a Business Strike. The Charlton does show a chart that lists 1983 Far Beads as existing in PL and SP with prices but does not provide a photo proving they actually exist. I believe this listing in the Charlton is incorrect information that has sent many of us on wild goose chases trying to find something that does not actually exist.

I have asked for anyone who has Far Beads in PL, SP, and/or PR to please post photos, but nobody has ever posted photos. Also, I have never seen a single photo of Far Beads in any strike type other than Business Strike.

There was one photo posted of a 1983 Canada Small Cent from a Proof set graded and identified as being the Far Beads variety, but it was misidentified. The person who posted that photo showed that it was incorrectly identified by the grader. I have never seen any other photos and none have ever been offered for sale.

Two Canadian Coin Dealers on the Internet have listed Far Beads varieties in PL, but when I purchased those pennies from those two coin dealers the results were the same, they both sent me Near Beads incorrectly identified and labeled as Far Beads.

PCGS and NGC both recognize four different strike types for Canadian coins. They use MS for uncirculated Business Strikes, PL for coins taken from regular mint sets, SP for coins taken from Specimen Sets, and PR for Proof coins. The number that follows is the grade and the two letters in front are the mint strike identifier. Some of the PL, SP, and PR coins are also marked cameo if they have frosted surfaces at their high points against mirror fields. I am collecting four mint strike types because PCGS identifies there being four. My US penny collection has a Business Strike and a Proof Strike, but I also collected the 1983 DDR, which is only found in Business Strike. Because the Charlton gives a price, which is lower than the price given for Near Beads, I assumed the FAr Beads variety existed in PL snd SP and was more common, but good luck buying these two. Because I have never seen any photographic evidence, never seen any for sale, and never seen any graded, I must assume Far Beads only exist in Business Strike. If I am wrong, prove it. Post a photo of Far beads side by side in the same photo with a Near Beads in something other than Business Strike or connect me to a coin dealer that has both varieties for sale in PL and SP, so I can buy both from whoever has them. I have given up looking for something that cannot be proven to exist.
