Do any of you still have some nice coins from your early days as a collector?

That’s serious coin. Really attractive Type II $20 Liberty gold coins are not easy to find because none have been recovered from shipwrecks.

My early days in the hobby were not all that great. Someone broke into our house and took almost all of my collection. They only left me one thing. It was my Lincoln wheat cent collection in Whitman folders. I had built it from circulation but never found most of the key dates.
I still have the set somewhere.

Looking back, the bad guys left me the most important thing in my collection. At that time my dad was running a large department store. He would take me to work with him and park me in the cash room rolling coins. My pay was 2 rolls of wheat cents per days. Those were the best days of my life.

 

I have nothing as I got ripped off for everything many years ago. It wasn't much but I stopped collecting for awhile as it was painful and not just for my wallet!

 

I still have my very first that I found in my coin bank.
