I've done the same thing with old stamps! Not necessarily for club letters, but rather anything I send via mail. I have received great feedback about it.

I like putting cull Buffalos, Wheats, and V Nickels in the "Take a Penny" trays at my work. Sometimes a customer will notice them with a glimmer of happiness in their eyes and grab them.

Just a few days ago I entered a 1838 seated liberty dime into circulation. It was cleaned and I thought why not. With it I also entered a hand full of buffalo and v nickels.

I just put about 200 wheaties from the 1940s and 50s back into the wild. None had any real value but perhaps some will find their way into a kid's hands and get them thinking about collecting coins.

Absolutely! That's awesome to hear so many of you putting coins back into the wild. I can almost guarantee that at least 1 person will become interested in coins by one of us.

    I like this thread.

Coins are money. Money is meant to circulate, that is its life. Rare, uncommon, or unusual pieces that don't have significant resale value or particular value to you (taking into account the rest of your collection)... why not let them live, let them have a chance to catch someone's eye, to start them collecting, or to just give a little more thought to physical money?

    Definitely worth it to me.
