Duke it seems as if a light bulb went off in your head and you now have a sense of the task that lies ahead of you...:D :D, while daunting at first, you will learn what to look for. The are many variables to look for as in plate design changes, cross over pairs, blocks, plate numners, mules, errors of all kinds, ink colors, understanding why stars are made and how they came to be..in one of my past Paper Money Contest I asked the question who is credited for coming up with this system..go back and look at the 3 Paper Money Contest's I have had and many answers will pop out at you.

Welcome my friend to true madness!!

And yes, by all means you must get every notes issued for that Series....
examples Series 1950 , 50A, 50B, 50C, 50D and 50E..you will see that some stars are quite difficulet to locate as well as some moderns..There are many Dealears who do not carry them due to low profit margins on thes newer notes...when you find em..do not pass em up cuz someone else is looking as well.

    Best O'Luck Sir.

Oh, one more thing, start a spread sheet or get a book you can highlight the Fr#s' and record the grades and SN's so you can keep track of what you start to collect, this prevents duplicates.

Well, I have been working on setting up my spread sheets this weekend for the my small sized St. Louis district notes and I've definitely discoverd how huge of an undertaking the task ahead will be as I began listing all of the series, stars and listing all the individual Fr#s. There's a ton of work to plow through towards this goal...

I too Krispy am calling it a day one my spread sheet.
It's rough draft is $1's, $2's and $5's now. I was thinking that the $1's would have alot more notes to get then the larger denoms but the 5's are the most so far.

    And here's some questions again...

    1. Just breezing thru the 10's I guess the gold notes will be there too?

    2. How do you guy's figure out your pricing to pay as green sheet doesn't get this modern or show the 67 grades, so if you use a book they are outdated and retail?

    3. Sheez I don't have a note and I'm already tired :D

Thanks again for the advice and help.

I'm glad I didn't think I was going for the 1918 FRBN's. I would like to get to them and hope to one day but those are pricy and add alot more notes to get.
    Ah one day :D

I had made a Group for us and added a link to this forum topic for us to talk in.
Krispy and I are the only 2 in there now. Do you 3 want to join...

I was wondering how we could set it up.
Do you think put up a page for pictures like this:
    1 for $1's, 1 for $2's ect
    or
By Districts which will end up being pretty much just our own collections
    or
    another option
    or
    none

Ok guys, I can't sit by and watch this, I'm in. The first paper series I started collecting was 2003 star notes, and I realized soon enough the Cleveland note was very elusive, and now I see the 2006 Cleveland star, is just as scarce. This will help me gain some perspective as to my final goals. Put me down as the "D" guy

I think what you're missing is that, ever since 1983, the district of the star note doesn't have to match the district of the note it replaces. That way, the BEP only has to keep on hand one pile of star notes for each denomination, instead of twelve. As a side effect, most series now have stars printed for only a few districts.

For series printed before 1983, it's a lot rarer to see a district getting regular notes and no stars, but it still happened occasionally. Generally, that means there were enough stars left over from the previous series that the BEP got through a whole (usually short) series without needing to print any more stars. For example, Kansas City had no 1969A $10 stars printed; the supply of 1969 $10 stars must've lasted clear through the small 1969A printing.
