That was from the Open forum? What give's Rickie? Everything alright? We've been picking up District members but this would be the first time loosing one... Or are you just wanting to switch districts I hope all is well with you.
I too saw your OPEN posting this evening Rick... I'm stunned as all hell to hear this news, but I cannot even begin to imagine what this decision must mean to you. I'm sorry to reply here, but wanted to acknowledge that I also read your listing, hope you are well, have noted your prescience here has fallen off the last week or so, wishing you the best and hoping for your eventual return to the forum on a more regular basis when you can get back to us. As for your question that you wanted to bounce off us, I personally, having seen the likes of your quality notes posted on these forums, would seriously consider consignment. Now I say this on the condition if you think the return value and turn around time for collecting your money from the auction house to be suitable and timely per your needs. Of course I know you are enormously generous and in your moment of need may offer collectors a chance at your stunning collection as well as to cut out the middle man (that is, eliminating the auction houses' cut in helping you sell). Perhaps you even have your dealer contacts that would be responsive to such an inventory opportunity? Boy, this is hard! and I'm just learning about currency, haven't even considered the selling questions myself in the least bit... I figure you will post when you need to or can get around to an update but until then, Peace and Health to you RickieB!
Well... I was simply blown out of the water (already) with my bids on the notes I considered in this auction for my St Louis district set! :crying: Plus the TT auction today is only a few hours in... Now all I can do is watch and take notes on what they sell for for the next time I get a chance at similar notes...
Series 1950-B, $5 Star for my St. Louis FRN district collection F-1963H* $5 1950-B Priest | Anderson SN: H04771653* Has some spots, nearly lays flat, but no creased folds, no pinholes, plus a touch off center. Not AU to me, maybe EF?
All and all, a very nice note Krispy. Most of the Clev. stars I long for are a little beyond my reach yet.
Thanks pennywise! I agree with you too. I'm not about to pass over a star note if it will fill a hole, act as a placeholder or save me from selling an arm to get the note. Of course once I do fill the holes there will be plenty of pricey challenges out there to upgrade and fill those tough holes to look forward to down the road.
This is the first time I am not doing that totally. I am passing on quite a few as I'm trying to do alot less upgrading in the end and being more picky to start with. Time will see how it turns out and if I can stick with that.
Is this what Rickie meant when he said: "10. Be prepared for the extra mile (whatever it takes to get what you want)" http://cgi.ebay.com/Fr-2201J-1934-5...ultDomain_0?hash=item2eac1eca99#ht_2555wt_941
Nice find there Duke... Now that's more like going an 'extra light year', than 'extra mile' but you know what, despite the grade and that nice SN on the $500, I think I'd just resign not to collect $500 FRNs if I couldn't afford something like this, which I can't, especially if this is even approaching the kind of dough you have to fork over for notes that off center. It's distracting with such a narrow margin on the face. You know, what you said about hoping to upgrade less by being more choosey up front, I agree with you on certain notes of a certain quality and price range. As for the low priced and more recent series, I'm going to snap them up raw in gem and ChCU without overly special regards to SNs, blocks, that they're mules or varieties. Once those are in my bag, if I find something nicer, then I'll upgrade, but there's a lot of the more recent notes that aren't too pricey that are in ready supply that I want to be done with so I can concentrate on the tougher ones, monitor their market prices and try to score some nice ones in the more scarce series. I guess it's part of one's strategy/approach but I'd sure hate to pass over some common $1 note from a recent series now only to be asked 10x or more a few years on. By this approach I expect to be about 95% complete in my $1 FRNs very soon as I have concentrated my initial effort on them since taking the St Louis district mantle. There are a couple of scarce series I have learned of in the $1 denomination as well and will be on the look out for them, but I am just about ready to move on to $5s in a more concentrated manner because of this approach with the $1s.
It looks as though we are collecting about the same again. I thought you were talking about the tougher notes in a lower grade to upgrade but I do am filling up my $1 and $2's with Unc's quickly. At those prices it will be fine to have extra's and upgrade later to a special S/N or a TPG'ed high grade. It's the higher priced stuff I'm being more carful about for now. Shoot for the one's and 2's I've been going after consecutive numbers a lot too. As for that note I posted Not only is it a $500 in high grade but the green sheet has it at only $1400. So it's not bad until you add that it's a STAR!! That makes it much more...oh yea and then it is Serial Number 1...so that compounds it to that lofty pirce!! Or i could hold out for a 65* S/N #1...oh yea the 58 is the only one period...lol
Ewe...look at that S/N it's way up there at 165 where mine is #1...yea that's right...who's #1...mine is #1. Bah...never mind. Neither of us have the lotto ticket And yea that's a sweet note!
Look at the pricing history of that note. Too bad we didnt have it back in 1/19/05 for 45k. I'd have loved to sell it for 126k 2 years later!!
No kidding! We can only wish what we pick up now will do the same someway, somehow... shop well. I also posted the HA quoted text for Pennywise since it made a mentioned Cleveland notes.
