Did I miss this or is it an edit? Anyhow, my claim was about the anthropological propaganda against French and British colonialism already put out around 1950 with roots back to 1938 von Däniken is a swiss guy who first published in 1968. So the fact that von Däniken is a racist is just irrelevant to my position. That you believe it relevant I see as a tribute to the long term success of such as Lazarsfeld. Rob T
As I said to Orfew when I first joined this group - I think something has gone very very wrong with modern academic life in general. I see it too commonly these days Here you make two suggestions 1) I have not read the first article 2) It answered all my questions Both are incorrect. Debate relies upon the calm presentation of valid premises, not incorrect rhetorical flourishes (Or - at least - it did when I was a boy) Rob T
I have no idea what you are going on about. I made a statement that the roots of the 'ancient aliens' hypothesis is rooted in racism and you asked me to provide citations. I provided them. I'm not looking for an argument, I was trying to be helpful by answering your request. If you don't agree with the premise, that's fine.
One premise that I have never seen posited... The Alegandron Theory of: Dogs Creating Civilization©. Humans have had a symbiotic relationship with Dogs for at least 28,000 years, and some say nearly 50,000 years. This is approximately from the Time that Humans are considered Modern, or as Homo Sapiens-Sapiens, as opposed to the MANY other highly intelligent Human Species (perhaps, many of which were more intelligent than us today). Cats, a lot less time...what, maybe, 6000 years? And, Humans domesticated farm animals and plants perhaps 10,000 years ago. (HEY!, Gobeklitepi PREDATES farming!) [Sorry, @Johndakerftw , I cannot count lizards... ] That being stated, if it weren't for Dogs, we would never had become the species we are today. Ergo, all dogs need to be guaranteed to enjoy all Human Rights. As a new Human Effort, I believe we need to seed the galaxy (and other galaxies), with the DNA from DOGS. This process will develop Sentient Beings everywhere. There we go folks, I have PUBLISHED and claim rights via common law Copyright worldwide, cuz, the Internet is the Ultimate Source of Human Knowledge. And from this Theorum, we can extrapolate that EVERYTHING Man has accomplished is due to its symbiosis with Dogs. NEXT! (Yes, I do half-believe the above) This announcement is BLUE APPROVED. This is our Dog that has recently joined our Family as a new Human-Trainer. We named him Claudius, but, I think we should had named him LOKI, @panzerman ... He is 5 months, great personality, but with an ENORMOUS amount of energy. When he is in a mood, he literally bounces off the walls, with a huge smile on his face! All...THREE...pounds...of him! LOL, I have nick-named him “CRAZY-MAN”.
The story was told to the Reader by Dogs, stories reminiscent of past Humans whom died out, and Dogs were the lead Sentient beings.
Cute little guy! Loki weighs 122lbs, pretty docile in his demeanor, loves his walks I finally used a new God, my previous two Rotties where named "Thor", and are either in Heaven or Valhalla. They where beautifull big cuddlely sucks.
Title: City Author: Clifford D. Simak Original copyright year: 1952 City Clifford D. Simak EDITOR'S PREFACE These are the stories that the Dogs tell when the fires burn high and the wind is from the north. Then each family circle gathers at the hearthstone and the pups sit silently and listen and when the story's done they ask many questions: "What is Man?" they'll ask. Or perhaps: "What is a city?" Or: "What is a war?"
Nope, just plain accurate I would fear. Though not particular to the US. Returning to the sort of ideas about the fall of Rome from previous generations, (Gibbon, Toynbee....) there is one matter we should see that they could not. Since probably Aurelian, and surely Constantine, fiscal policy was driven by monetary manipulation. Ring any bells? Gibbon would not see that because he did not have access to the Egyptian Papyri of the 4th century. Modern numismatists do not much see it - but why? Seems maybe like they do not want to see it. But Gibbon maybe saw other things more clearly than us. Wiki suggests that "virtue signalling" was a concept created in around 2015. Aside from some fellow now rambling about Darwin, (taking us up a blind alley it seems to me). Regarding the fall of Rome, (and the following thousand year Dark Age), Gibbon perceptively pointed to a rise in “spiritual pride”………….. Rob T
From what standpoint do you see it? Are you a faculty member somewhere? Are you a student? Just wondering.
Myself, am proudly not a member or associate of any faculty, but I have friends and acquaintances who are, and who well understand the points I make. But let me tell you some (I judge) informative stories about the workings of modern Academic life as I have observed it. Lets start with my understanding of a academic internet group XXX. Associated with CCC faculty Prof YYY. The guys there are on a mission to oppose Hindu nationalism in academia. OK - I have no problem with that in itself. But it becomes a problem when the site is used to spread misleading ideas about the (scientific) accuracy of Ancient Hindu weights. So I spoke up on that matter, and was expelled. Soon after a member of British Museum staff supported my point, he told me he was expelled too. One of the academic moderators of that group tried to block my membership of another academic internet group, ZZZ, but I initially got past that. Anyhow, a disagreement broke out there concerning something to do with King David’s temple. Senior academics, including one AAA, seemed to me to be excessively sarcastic to their less esteemed opponents. So to even things up I posted what I judge to be a relevant important error in Kletter’s work on 7th century Judean weight standards. Again, I was immediately expelled. I attempted to remonstrate with the faculty DDD Prof, and moderator, AAA. My recollection is he had no interest in the facts – he just repeatedly asked the same question as you – Who am I? What faculty did I belong to? Then my recollection is I got into private discussion with someone who had clashed with AAA in the past. The fellow was a prospective PhD candidate. My recollection is that he told me that AAA had contacted his PhD advisor, and who had had in turn instructed the fellow to cut out the criticism or damage his career prospects. Scholarship should surely be a debate about the truth, and not a place for what might best be called thuggery. And the problem with modern academic life is not a general sort of thuggery, it is the turning of a blind eye to it. Far too many modern academics tend their own chickens, ducking important and contentious issues, both about the facts, and the way facts are being treated. I fear a new Dark Age is dawning. The Enlightenment is being replaced by an Endarkenment. Am certainly not alone in that. Rob T PS Ha! Get to know me better and I might fill in some of the blanks concerning names and faculties. But for now, well, there are well known stories about some of these folk threatening litigation to defend their “scholarly” positions PPS Perhaps there are people on CoinTalk who find my books useful from time to time? I hope so.
