By chance I have been researching such matters recently, and there turns out to be a huge amount more to it than I ever imagined. Julius Caesar and Octavian both claimed Aeneas the Trojan as an ancestor. I guess some folk know that. But how many people know that Frankish Kings claimed Trojan descent (in the Chronicle of Fredegar dated to around 642 AD). And that similar claims followed relentlessly, associated with Charlemagne, Frederick Barbarossa, the Capetians, and the Habsburgs, down to the 18th century. A guy in around 1720 went to prison for denying the French Monarch was descended from Trojans..... History is weird enough already - no need to bring up aliens! Rob T
Claiming descent from illustrious personages (or gods in some cases) imparted an aura of legitimacy in ancient times, both amongst the Greeks and Romans. What if we still witnessed the same thing today? Though I don't hear of anyone claiming descent from aliens, except for some fringe groups - who claim to be 'star-children' or something like that amongst New Age circles.
