I'm glad you started this thread as I'd forgotten these were coming up this Thursday. I'll be ordering a couple of the uncirculated.
I have to buy at least one of each... More like 3 each.. But I have a "Coin Problem" (Says My Wife.. )
tell her its better than a coke problem- then explain if you ever die she gets to sell your coins and move to the carriageway.... it will make her happy.
My wife tells me that I spend too much on coins too. I just say "Spent?" I still have them and they are generally worth more at this point than what I originally paid for them. What has she bought recently that she can say that about? Not much. :crying:
I'll be buying one of each for myself and for my two grandsons. My dad was DAV - Battle of the Bulge and I spent 20 months in 'nam in the crotch. rono aka Sgt. O. CoA, lstReconBn, lstMarDiv Danang, RVN 3/68-11/69
I plan on buying one of each, because of it's subject. I do suspect however that it will be heavily collected and hoarded, for that same reason. Low total mintage figures do not necessarily mean this will be especially valuable. Take some of the Morgan treasury hoards for example..
You have to look at it from her point of view...you took perfectly good "spending" money and converted into the "non-spending" variety...if it can no longer be spent...it's SPENT!!!
I totally agree. When someone above mentioned getting a letter in the mail I thought they were talking about an email. When I got home from work I had a sales promotion from the US mint in my mail box. Could be they're anticipating slow sales, I don't know. I'd like to have one, simply to support our vets but money is really tight for me so I'll have to get creative if I choose to get one. I just don't know yet, the Braile design and coin was a total downer. hya:
A Questionable Design As a Vietnam Veteran from a family of 3 Veteran sons, having 2 being DAV, I don't feel unpatriotic in agreeing with your observation. We all are proud to live in this land of great earned freedoms, and I believe that most would rather reflect on our allegiance, than our handicap. I suggest that a soldier saluting the flag on crutches, would probably win more votes from Veterans. Just an old mans' opinion!!
I agree with your opinion "old man" The obverse leaves much to be desired. . . From one old man to another, Welcome Home Brother!
My crystal ball says no sell out and very slow sales. I just don't see the image as being a winner and it's expensive for many non collectors who are struggling to put food on the table.
I quite agree with your statement James, however, commem's have always been expensive....even during the "classical" era.
I just finished reading Ernest Hemingway's novel "The Sun Also Rises". I wonder how the US Mint would put that kind of war injury on a coin.
