He actually came out and said he was lying about everything. I can't find the thread or the post but I believe the thread became a bit heated and some post were removed. I don't know but I saw it.

The contradiction that got me was just a while back. Doug posted that if you dip a coin for too long, you can kill the luster. We all know that's true. Insider said that was not true. Later insider says the same thing Doug said. The guy has a mission here and it's not friendly.

    Is speedip acid based?

Speed dip sounds like something I'd shy away from. I'm a naturally naked guy with little need to further denude.

It's the same as EZest, I have no idea what's in it. But when it removes the toning, it destroys the mirrors. It leaves a bunch of spots everywhere.

    That's E-Z-Est . It's acid.

How many seconds in the dip for the MS coins, same question on the proofs?

I use E-Z-est and never use it at full strength always at least 50/50 with distilled water or even more dilute. Firstly though I'll always use the boiling water, baking soda, and tinfoil method as it doesn't really harm the coins in anyway if you're careful with it. It can however remove some nasty toning pretty easily and then if your still not happy you could try dipping the coin. I usually give it a two second count in the 50/50 E-Z-est for both MS and Proof coins when dipping. I think the label of Ezest says 5 seconds imo that's too long. You can always re dip another couple seconds if you need too, but I err on the side of caution as there's no way to undip a coin once you've gone too far.
@Sean5150 if you're getting spots everywhere are you sure you're deactivating and removing all the dip; as well as drying the coins correctly? I found anytime rinsing in just tap water it would leave spots so I make sure to finish with distilled water every time now.

"He" That's me, certainly did say I was lying about everything.

You can find it in the thread about "do dealers lie" or something along those lines. I wrote:

    1. I am a female and...
    2. ...that I worked at a TPGS...
    3. ...and I was dating another grader so don't you boys think you can date me...
    4. I also gave a reason why I was behaving on occasion like a :grumpy::troll:

A moderator deleted some comments as inappropriate. I suggested he also delete the ACTUAL postings of U.S. Mint operations one member "fabricated" for what ever his reasons - so as not to confuse collectors here who believe he is very informed.

I have told everyone that I lied about being female. He has "almost" confessed to what he did :p. Let's just drop it as I :angelic:decided to let him  "weasel out."

Doug posted that if you dip a coin for TOO [as in too, understand too, now look the word "too" up in the dictionary.]too long, you can kill the luster. INDIDER AGREES!We all know (even Insider who claims he has dipped ["conserved"] just a few coins in his life as a professional numismatist). that's true. Insider said that was not true. Better read my posts again - AFTER you find out what the word "too" means :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: Later insider says the same thing Doug said. The guy has a mission here (True, I'm trying to HELP others here to EDUCATE the uninformed collectors seeking to learn about coins) and it's not friendly:bigtears::bigtears::bigtears::bigtears::bigtears: Now you really hurt my feelings!

@Idhair I should never have guessed how long you have been on CT. Hopefully, when you learn to interpret/comprehend what you read on CT you will become an even better numismatist. I'll keep working with you here. I have been in numismatic classes where some students were much less informed than you.

SpeeDip is concentrated EZest I think. The way I have used this product is to have hot water running in a sink and put the coin in the sink so it is being continuously rinsed. I next dip the coin (less than a second) and return it to the rinse. If you need more, you can always dip a second time, but you can NEVER un-dip.

Finishing with distilled water is a great idea, but I would still blot the coin instead of letting it air-dry.

So...I understand that the coin you dip is already wet (water) befor you dip it in acid? You've been watching some of the professional tricks used for certain coins. Oops, I forgot you are a chemist!;)

Regardless of what I'm doing - and when dipping I always have running water right there - the last liquid touching the subject is always acetone, so I don't have to worry about "drying" afterward. That said, acetone is more or less miscible with water so it pays to remove most of that via air drying (I fling the subject coin around a bit) before that last step.

I posted a question about how to be a supporter a long time ago and no one replied! That little green band below your name is a nice gesture. My wife just asked: "Who gets the money." She writes the checks so I don't spend too much. CT has saved me mony for all my time lost on Ebay!
