Ok.I got these today at a boot-sale (think you call them flee market??not sure.).Got home.emptied them onto work top and WHAAMY... I know theres toning but I haven't seen this brownish colour before.Any ideas how or why and should I test wash one (at own risk? )
The coloration and pitting leads me to believe several ( if not most) are metal detector finds, although if you are out of the US, perhaps they kept the locals and didn't collect US.
Ive noticed that they are mainly all from th 60s but am suprised to find some silver included. The single coin that is battered has a different finish in the face compaired to the surroundings.or am I seeing things.
Will get a pic of above mentioned and varieties are what im hoping for,I know there supposed to be a pointed '9' on the 64's I wouldn't know where to start on the dime apart from the red book.[emoji15] ..as for the dirty brown little buggers..I threatened them with a duster and look what happened. ..
I've seen the brown toning before. No idea what caused it. I got this one in change. Gave it away to somebody here.
Thanks Paddy, any particular web site you can recommend for dime varieties because my favourite list on my pc must have close to a hundred all to do with coins.i get lost looking sometimes.[emoji39]
It appears Corrosion occurred over the whole obverse of the coin, so it was all the color of the fields, then wear ( circulation) wore the corrosion off of the high spots, bust, top of letters, etc. PMD means Post Mint Damage .
Thankyou for that,I read some posts and find myself looking up what people are saying..by time ive done that, they've moved on to something else. [emoji38]
