It's not a setup strike, like Chris said, rim tells the story .
I'm in the milled crowd, ( pmd ) or something like that ....

    Weigh it ............................................................

Not to worry! If you get pulled over and have to go to court, just ask when the last time was that their radar was calibrated.

Let's not hijack and move to general discussion.

OP, keep the dime. It only cost you 10 cents.

I'm in the PMD camp on the Roosevelt. I don't believe that the planchet could have spread out enough to fill the groves in the reeded collar without sufficient pressure to have at least form the letters around the rim.

It all depends on the originality of the surface. The OP either knows an original surface or he does not. Set up strikes have reeding. So so coins struck on thin planchets. Geting a weight is a good start if a person does not know what original mint luster looks like.

I agree with getting an accurate weight first.
Question for the OP. Is the coin as round and the same size as a normal dime?
Maybe just the angle of the images but it looks a bit off.

Since this is a CnClad Coin, I would think that the amount of wear it took to give it this appearance would have had an effect on the soft copper reeding yet, that reeding looks intact.

I'd be tempted to send it off to Mike Diamond for an opinion.

OP should post it on Coneca forums and let everyone know what they say over there . If the OP don't care, I can post it over there too ...

It is slightly bigger, and not perfectly round... I took two pictures, in case the first didn't show well enough

I need a better image of the reverse, so I can post your coin on Coneca forums . Here's your images after I worked on them .

I'll stick with someone flattened it.

Is it possible for a set up strike to be larger that a normal dime?

How could it be flatten, the rim would be flatten too, not missing . I still saying milled, or something like that ...

Thank you all so much for your input and help. I (obviously) know absolutely nothing about coins or the making process. My brother is a hobby coin collector and I started collecting foreign coins for him that I find coming through my office (I count money for a retail store) and have come across this. So again, I thank everyone... I've gotten a lot more replies than I expected.
I hope this image is a little better... And I took a picture of the edge, in case that does anything

I only have a 10k press, If I still had a 30k press I believe I could have duplicated this. this is about 20 strikes between two pieces of bar stock aluminum. The rim is the first thing to go and if I had continued you would not have known it existed.
