One of my coin dealers has a box of silver rounds, bars, octagons, slugs, etc. he lets me dig around in and pick out anything I want. Is there any that are special that I should look for?

Just offhand there are silver 1oz. peices in quarter diameter rounds that are about half an inch thick(they fit in a quarter coin tube) and there are different sizes and thicknesses of bars, some are art bars and some are different silver companys logos, prospector bars,etc.,etc. Again just wondering if any different sizes and shapes are sought out for collecting any more than any others,I'm understanding different brands etc are but interested in different stuff too.

It is easiest to resell one ounce rectangular bars or coin-shaped and sized silver rounds. Many of the older ones may have some collector appeal also. Anything that is odd shaped or from a souce unknown where the weight and purity of the silver is in doubt might carry a significant discount in a resale. Others who will show up here can provide more detail on which mints to watch for.

Yeah, some of the odd shaped "rare" stuff or art bars may go for premiums on eBay... if it isn't too scratched up.

I have had very good experiences with Englehard Prospector rounds... so if you can get those at a good price... go for it. They were pretty much the standard for years and still very popular.

Be sure to consider the bullion value of every piece... make sure it is hallmarked "999 Fine Silver" or something equivalent and with Troy Onces... not just Oz. Also, you could bring your own, or the dealer might have for you to use, gram scale to be sure what you are dealing with. (You have to assess whether this would be okay with your dealer or might offend him... if it is odd shaped stuff he would probably be okay with it.)

Hmmm... reading back through that last paragraph makes it sound like another kind of deal other than bullion! LOL

    Merry Christmas,
    Michael

Also keep in mind that just because something is marked .999, it doesn't mean that it is. It could be .98 or .92 or .80. You would need to have it assayed to know for sure.

Those thick little rounds are quite collectible according to another forum I frequent. Made by Swiss of America....
