DIE MARKS IN SHIELD?

    How did these die marks happen ?? I have never been able to convince myself of just how this happened? any help!!!! Here are two different 3-cent silvers.

    mint employee did a poor job of polishing the die...

    Die cuts not polish marks. Better pictures would be nice.

    DIE MARKS 3.jpg I don't think so, they all commence at one point and their are only 3 scratches and in a straight line!

    Strange they seem to be on top and under design ??

    Looks like the die was scratched, which would result in raised lines on the coin.

    Also note they do not cut through the raised lines of the shield stripes. They only show in the "white" stripes which are at the level of the field and were created by the highest portions of the die. Cuts made on the coin would show on the raised lines of the stripes and most likely would not show in the white stripes or between the raised lines of the "red" stripes. These cuts were in the die.
