Here’s the best clash I have. I bought the coin at an auction and there was no mention of the clash. Boy was I surprised and tickled pink. Best yet, it’s on an 1855 Indian Princess Head, Small Head $1.00 Gold Dollar.

I wouldn’t pay more for a die crack but I also wouldn’t pay less for a coin with a die crack.

My uncle got me a 1921-D Morgan MS63 PCGS with a die crack and it was the first die crack I found myself ^_^.

That has a funny story! As a dealer friend Len had it in his inventory years ago at least 4 to 5 years.
While working shows I would do attributions for the dealers . I actually asked Len to look at the coin.
And I knew at first sight it was special.
I told him that there was a lot more meat on the bone.
He had it priced at 350. Len said the first 350 someone offers its theirs.
Time passed one year then another until last fall. When I was able to purchase it.
By that time the coins value had passed the 350 mark by a hundred or more.
So I asked Len what he wanted for the coin. He remembered his quote to me years ago.
He said Paddy I told you years ago ! Besides all your efforts to help out the dealers improve their profitability by doing attributions for them its yours for $350.!
Wow as its a ms 64 I believe grey sheet bid is now at 450.
But yeah it sat in Len's case for at least 4 years....and was available at least at a 100 or better shows durring that time.

I'm firmly in category III with die cracks part of what I look for, especially in common varieties.

Now I don't know if that is still true, but it may be. I don't know how old that notation on the envelope is.

My only pre 1900 die crack. Not very dramatic, but still a crack (useful for die pairing analysis).

Sadly I have not found a new friend. I have submitted applications but found that none have even checked on my references. Very frustrating and I'm beginning to think it might have something todo with my age. Looking for a younger pup has it's disadvantages when talking to shelters as they look like they seem to think that a friend might outlive me and have to go to yet another person at some time. But getting an older friend worries me as I might outlive it and be heart broken again. It's not something I have dealt with well at all. But I will keep looking and hopefully...(and thanks so much for asking & remembering)
