The scratch, or crack, is kinda deep.. ish... could it just be a regular old scratch? Or a real mint error?
You mentioned the answer. "Kinda deep". Die cracks cause raised surfaces on a coin. Scratches are recessed into the coin
That looks like a Lamination Crack. That would be a Planchet flaw issue not a Die Issue. A Die Crack would be raised because the metal flows into the crack on the Die. A Lamination is like a peel on the Planchet and has nothing to do with the striking of the coin with a Die.
Just think it through. A crack on the die is going to look the opposite on the coin. On the die, it's going to be concave, just like that scratch, while on the coin, it's going to be the opposite, convex.
