Die Crack, Gouge, Scratch, or Other?

I was just looking at this nicely toned proof 1962 Jefferson Nickel and noticed what looked like either a large die crack line or a large gouge on the reverse under the word Monticello.

Anybody know what this is? This coin just came straight out of it's original mint packaging so I don't know how it could have gotten such a large scratch. That is why I am thinking die crack or something that happened when it was made.

    Thanks

Is it raised or incuse on the coin?

That is where I was having a problem! I couldn't tell. After looking at it more, it appears to be what looks like a canal running through the coin, like someone wanted a river to run through it!

It has been in it's original cellophane wrapper all along, but maybe it got abused somewhere along the line? I don't know.

If it is incuse (which it appears it might be), it looks like a struck-through error, probably through string.

Thanks non_cents. After looking at it in more detail, it does appear to be incuse.

A string? How would a string have gotten in there? Is that common - I mean as strike-through errors go?
