I have this 2008 P nickel with a nice die clash on the reverse. Two eyes are clearly seen under Monticello. My question is that after two dies clash, how many coins would be produced that show good detail on the clashes? Does the detail soften after x number of coins? So far it’s the only one I’ve found on the newer nickels

Many. Until the Die is exchanged.

    Good question.

Yes, the details of the clash do tend to soften from continued use of the dies. I saw this occur often on Morgan dollars.

How long the Mint continues to use the dies, I can't say, but one of my acquaintances who retired from the Philly Mint told me (many years ago) that when dies do clash, the sound of steel-hardened dies clashing is very different from the sound made when a planchet is struck. So, they usually knew when it happened.
