I've been going through a roll of wheaties I bought off the bay and came across this 57D. Would this be considered a die chip or retained cud? You can see a chunk of metal filling in the bottom of the 'B' and another chunk next to the 'E'. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
From what i've heard, a cud only involves the rim, this looks like the very early stages of a "bie" die chip
The “BIE Handbook” Edited by Howard O Hardy and published in 1972 has 568 listings, Hardy Index numbers, for the 1957-D. The 1969 edition of “THE CLASSIFICATION AND VALUE OF ERRORS ON THE LINCOLN CENT” by Jean Cohen has 144 listings for the 1957-D. You can check the Cuds-on-Coins site to see if you coin is listed on their site. http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-cent-bies/ Yours is a II-F-4: “BIE”. Check the 1957-D listings, http://cuds-on-coins.com/bie-1957/
Thank you for the resource, very cool see all the different errors! Any idea if there is a premium? I've never really found anything like this just grease filled dies. Although minor it's still pretty neat. Edit: I did find a store listing some for around $3 Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Only if you find someone who collects Lincoln Die Breaks. You see them on ebay but not many sell. Filter on sold price and you can see what's selling.
