Did you know that apparently PCGS 5 million cert #'s are no longer valid?

So I have this coin 1925 Peace dollar gen 1.2 holder with some nice peach colored toning (my pictures don't really show it at all). I was going through coins on my desk and decided to recheck the cert which I know was previously valid and was surprised that it now comes up as a completely different coin. While this may have indicated that I was dealing with a fraud slab/coin, etc. I knew for a fact this coin was 100% valid PCGS slabbed. So I called PCGS customer service to inquire and the rep revealed this gem to me 'that all 5 million series certifications are no longer valid' and I'd have to send the coin back into them to be re-holdered and issued a new certificate # and updated slab. Kind of crazy how a company can just void out and reissue all those prior certification #'s and then require the coin be recerted. Now she did state they'd send me a prepaid label to do so but I thought it was kind of messed up. So if you have any coins that have a 5XXXXXX cert # check them via https://www.pcgs.com/cert/ and see if they too have had another coin assigned that cert # now that PCGS uses 8 digit cert numbers. Was anyone else aware of this and perhaps I just missed it or is it new to others as well?

*Note that I didn't add the proceeding 0 to the cert number there system does that automatically.

I wonder if their prepaid labels are insured properly...

They likely killed them due to a glut of counterfeits using that cert number series. It's possible too they got dumped somehow when they upgraded their systems but they seem to be willing to foot the bill for reholders since they offered a prepaid label.

    They have insurance.......

I would not send it in, I much prefer the rattler over the latest holder. The only way I might consider it is if the coin is undergraded and they were going to regrade the coin at the time of reholder. But that's just me. :)

Anyone have any they can check? I would like to know the validity of this claim, or if it is just a fluke.

I tried verifying your coin and it wouldn't verify at all whether I put in the leading 0 or not.

I checked a few on Ebay and they come up wrong as well but only 5 million series without the barcode. I wonder if they lost part of a database or something.

It would be nice if they'd at least tell customers which numbers or range that has an issue or something though. Although from the ones I've seen I wonder if it's Wonder if it's 501xxxx's with the issue
