I was thinking someone took a hammer and a (tiny) chisel and tried to split this dime right down the middle. But I wouldn't expect the outer edge to be deformed in this manner. Shouldn't that edge simply have chipped off? Any thoughts are appreciated.
i;d say it was stuck in a counter or coinstar machine or something like that, metal looks more like it was pushed.....
It may have been struck by something dull and that's why the metal lumped up like that. Another thought would be from a jamb of a hand crank on a mechanical gum ball style machine. If it were a chisel, I would have used a large one across the entire surface, and would only need to go through a fraction of the coin's metal.
It's not like the coins are made from titanium. It really doesn't take much for some object like a hammer, wrench, etc. to put a dent in one. Chris
