I decided to trade an Instagram buddy today 35 ounces of generic silver for a 1872 .50 in PR60. This is my first non-modern Proof coin felt like I had to trade. What do you guys think? I am in the silver I am trading around $16 per. image.jpg

Numismedia has the half at $630 retail, the silver at $16/oz is $560. I'd say you did okay.

That's not a bad deal, junk silver is easy to accumulate, proof seated half dollars are truly rare and addictive. As far as money trade, it's pretty even, but what's cooler and has the better story? One of my favorite series.

The Half will probably appreciate in value more than the silver will. You did good.

I'd rather have the coin, too!

Nice trade! I'd rather have a 19th century proof coin to silver bullion any day of the week.

If I can get this one running I'll put one of those Engelhard loafs up :)
