It looks seriously pitted, though. It might not even grade.

This is just a coin I have to see in person. That guys focus, his white balance and his angle are crap.

Based on that image it won't grade, but there is no value in trying to do so.

I do think it was, at worst, a decent deal, and I have high standards, imo. However, I also think that the 1812 LC looks like it has surface problems in the form, most likely, of light corrosion, which, unfortunately, does make it a coin with at least slight problems.

I think many collectors would overlook the problems in this case. I agree with your details grade, F-12, maybe even F-15 if you want to be generous.

I've got a problem with auction people who claim they're not collectors and then assign a grade to the coins....sends the wrong message to me, but that's just me. If you are happy with your purchase Matchmaker then I'm happy for you.....

Me too. I still think those are a bit on the rough side but on ebay, you never know.
And if you keep them, as already noted if they make you happy, that is the main point of any hobby.

Really no problem, just salesmanship attempts. Sort of like "all unsearched coins" or "I do not know anything about coins but" or "I inherited these and don't know anything about them"
My favorite is "these belonged to my exhusband and we are going through a divorse so I'm selling all his stuff"
After a while they get kind of funny.

I think most of the crap on eBay turns me off.

    "L@@K"
"GEM BU UNCIRCULATED 70 PERFECT AMAZING"
    "UNSEARCHED"
"I know nothing of coins, but some how got a key date"
    "From an estate"
    "From my elderly neighbor"
    From my grandfather"

    Etc...

    It all gets tiring.

IMO, the 1812 is seriously corroded and would not grade.

In contrast, the 1814 1c PCGS G4 is properly graded and has a nice, smooth flan. Yes, it has sightly less detail than the 1812, but the 1814 would be much preferred since it's much closer to problem-free. The small, dull nick behind the throat is not bad for a G4.

As far as "did you get a great deal", it depends on what you like. Nine old coppers for $15 each ? Not too shabby. Like some others said, I bet you could sell 'em individually for more than you paid. I dunno.

Lots of folks, even advanced copperheads, have some fairly beat coins.

The way I see it, you got a coin minted when George Washington was president and 8 other coins. If you're keeping them, then it's a good deal just for history's sake. They probably won't "flip" for a profit, but that's really not the point anyway.

Too me the whole key to this lot will be attributing them. To me several of the coins will not bring a whole lot. The 1794 alone, if you can attribute it - might bring 30-40(or more) on ebay. You just never know. In the rest of the coins I see two ag's a 1812 and 1813 - the 1812 looks nicer that the one pictured above in my opinion. The 1813 has a slight hit at 2 o'clock, but still a decent coin. The 1819 is definetly cleaned, but not too bad - I would call it f details.

The corroded 1812 above would probably bring more than the ag, but I would buy the ag before I bought the corroded coin. As for the corroded 1812 I would net it out vg details - still I would not buy it, but others will for those details.

Now there are several damaged coins that would sale, but I will not speculate for how much. To me, maybe a couple of dollars - but ebay, they could be priceless. The 1800/79 is a popular variety, but the damage just hurts me to look at. Again accurate variety attribution could help.

I will not speculate how much these will bring if sold separately - but I would expect you to make a small profit. If you do sale them please let us know how you did. In my honest opinion I think you paid about the right price, maybe a little over - but probably splitting them up on ebay you will make money. Best of luck!

    Agreed ! Good point, Mark.

You'll learn a lot and maybe enjoy the attribution process. Good luck !

I think it is a very good deal and you folks are undervaluing that 1794. Even dateless 1794's with no reverse can bring $75 to $100 retail. That one has at least a partial date and can be attributed (I know which one it is.) The 1806 and 1842 are junkers, the 1800 is seriously hurt by the punching but helped by the strong overdate (I haven't done the attribution on it but I'm fairly sure it is S-196.) The first 1812 and last 1813 are both decent low grade coins. The first 1813 is a biit of a problem because the date is so weak. The second 1812 is actually a fairly decent coin, details of a VF but porous/corroded it would probably net out as a VG-8. In my opinion still a desirable coin. I think if you ignore the junkers and the questionable 1800 you still have about $180 retail or a little more. I would have gladly paid the $133 for this lot.

If you want to know what the 94 is let me know. I'll give you a clue, it' a head of 94 and one of the earlier ones.

When you get them take pictures, if you do as good a job with them as with that buffalo we could all tell more about them. That 1812 is giong to surprise people when you get a good picture of it. I think you are right about the focus and all that I may be wrong but I don't think it is corroded either. When you get pics put them ion this post so I will be sure and see them or PM me to let me know when. I hope you are right.

Very possible - but I have seen better in that price range to me it just depends on the day of the week sometimes. I will PM you what variety I think it is - would not want to ruin the OP's fun.
