I was comparing a nice 1964 for my album with this, when I spotted what was either a really advanced MDD or a true DDR! I think I may have gotten this down pat though, and found myself one for the books! But lets see what you guys have to say!
You can try to match it to one of these, but I agree with Physics. http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDR 1964.htm
Compare that to an actual DDR from 1964: http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1964PDDR001.htm Notice the split serifs on the real DDR? Look especially at the S on this coin, and how the ends are really split. On your coin, the doubling is very flat and shelf-like, and there is no split.
Just because it isn't listed doesn't mean it isn't a true doubled die. I personally have discovered 2 doubled dies, an RPM, and two bugs bunnies that were subsequently listed. The fact that it has all of the characteristics of MDD and not a single characteristic of a DDR is the bigger reason it isn't hub doubling....
You keep studying and searching you will find one. And when you see it for yourself you will almost never mistake another.
No not right now. I think I accidentally rolled the only DDR I ever found in a roll of nickels when dumping my bulk 1960's out. Even then it was very minor.
What do you mean by MDD? There is no such thing as a Mechanical Doubled Die. Either it's a Doubled Die or it is not. Mechanical Doubling or Die Deterioration Doubling has absolutely nothing to do with a true Doubled Die Variety. Got it? Understand?
